  • Lapis Lazuli is regarded as a healing stone and is connected to the practice of Medicine Buddha, also commonly referred to as the Healing Master of Lapis Lazuli Radiance. This precious stone has been deeply admired by many Asian and European cultures for over 6000 years and was considered as precious as diamond until recent times. It is mined from deep within the Hind Kush range in Afghanistan and Pakistan and is believed to have curative and strengthening effects on its wearers.

All of our malas have been blessed by Chökyi Nyima Rinpoche and selected by senior Lamas of Ka-Nying Shedrub Ling Monastery in Kathmandu, Nepal.

  • The teachings of the Medicine Buddha are recorded in theFour Medical Tantras, which form the basis for the Tibetan medical system. According to this tradition, all physical and mental ailments are the result of the three poisons, also known as the threekleshas. These root poisons are ignorance, attachment and aversion. These delusions result in imbalances in the winds and channels as well as the 25 constituents of the human body. In order to treat these ailments, we are advised to eat a balanced diet, alter our habits, and ultimately pursue spiritual transformation. So long as ignorance, attachment and aversion exist within our mindstreams, we will inevitably experience sickness and the endless miseries of saṃsāric existence. For this reason, the great masters of the past such as the Medicine Buddha are regarded as sources of healing, not only for their medicinal qualities but also for their unwavering compassion and aspirations for the sake of sentient beings.

The following is a supplication to the Medicine Buddha:

I beseech you, Blessed Medicine Guru,
Whose sky-colored, holy body of lapis lazuli
    Signifies omniscient wisdom and compassion
    As vast as limitless space,
    Please grant me your blessings.
